Fan Forest Pinnacle

Rated 5.0, 1 votes

Located 10km north of Western Rocky Island, Fan Forest Pinnacle is a very colorful dive site in the Mergui archipelago. It is sometimes also referred to as Rocky Peaks. The limestone pinnacle's shallowest point is 5m below the surface and its deepest doing beyond 40m. This can be an easy dive where divers descend to the deepest part of their profile and slowly circle the rock upwards. On occasions though, currents can be strong and it is not possible to get right around the pinnacle. Visibil...

Western Rocky Island

Rated 5.0, 1 votes

Located 85km west of Kawthaung, this is the southernmost dive site in Burma's Mergui archipelago. The dramatic underwater terrain of Western Rocky Island has something to suit most divers. There are walls, sloping reefs, boulders and pinnacles. The most popular section of the dive site however is the tunnel that runs all the way through the middle of the island. The tunnel starts on the southern wall. Divers first descend to a large cavern that starts just 5m below the surface and drops to t...

Rated 5.0, 1 votes

The Mergui Archipelago or Myeik Archipelago is the best known dive area in Myanmar. Its gateway is Kawthaung (Ko Song by the Thai and Victoria Point by westerns), a nice village where tourists apply for visas and wait before they can start their live-aboard experience. You will also meet many day visitors from Ranong who spent a day shopping in Myanmar. The archipelago offers many in dense rainforest covered islands, excellent coral reefs and unexplored sheltered coves and bays. Most are uninhab...

Shark Cave

Rated 5.0, 1 votes

The larger and middle of the three islands is the one with the cave that has made the dive site famous. The cave starts as a large cavern entrance on the northwest corner of the island at 5m below the surface and drops down to 16m deep. The cavern gradually narrows inside until forming a tunnel about 20m long through to the east side of the island. There is a smaller tunnel chamber accessed by a meter wide hole. Large tawny nurse sharks are the most common sharks seen in the tunnel. Grey reef sh...

Surrounded by deep water, this dive site is a point of congregation for all fish life in the area and is a good place to see sharks and large pelagic fish. This dive site is a rocky pinnacle that breaks the surface in several places and desce...

Black Rock

Rated 2.8, 4 votes

Located 100km northwest of Kawthaung, Black Rock is one of the best dive sites in Burma's Mergui archipelago where it is possible to see almost anything. This is an exposed dive site in open seas a long way from anywhere else and therefore acts as a natural magnet for marine life. It is a dive site for experienced divers as currents can be strong here and some of the nicest parts, with the biggest fish, are in deeper water. Whether you dive the east or the west side of the rock may depend on...
